Prince Plaza Building in Shenzhen designed by OMA breaks ground today
Shenzhen, 22 July 2014 - Construction begins today on the OMA-designed Prince Plaza Building in Shenzhen, China. The 209-meter office tower responds to the transformation of Shekou, Shenzhen's first developed industrial area, into a new commercial and creative hub.

OMA’s De Rotterdam, G-Star Raw HQ & Shenzhen Stock Exchange have been shortlisted for World Architecture Festival awards in Singapore
De Rotterdam has been shortlisted by WAF in the Completed Buildings - New and Old category; G-Star Raw HQ in the Completed Buildings - Production Energy and Recycling category; and Shenzhen Stock Exchange in the Completed Buildings - Office category. The winners will be decided after presentations on October 1 and 2 at the 2014 WAF in Singapore. more

De Rotterdam Awarded Best Tall Building in Europe by CTBUH

OMA's recently completed tower, De Rotterdam, has been awarded Best Tall Building in Europe by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

In addition, De Rotterdam has been nominated by CTBUH for Best Tall Building Worldwide. The ceremony to present the regional awards and announce the global winner will take place this November in Chicago. (OMA's CCTV Headquarters in Beijing was awarded 2013 Best Tall Building Worldwide.)

OMA wins competition to design Axel Springer’s new media centre in Berlin
OMA's design for Axel Springer's new media centre in Berlin has been chosen as the winner in the final round of a public design competition. The building will embody Axel Springer's corporate shift from print to digital media, and will create a new hub in the existing Axel Springer campus in central Berlin. more

OMA design team recommended to build Transbay Block 8 residential tower

OMA's New York office is part of a team that has proposed to develop Block 8 in San Francisco's Transbay neighborhood.  Led by Partner Shohei Shigematsu, the design features a tower on one end of the block with two podium buildings and a row of townhouses filling the remainder of the block.

OMA wins competition to design Pont Jean-Jacques Bosc in Bordeaux

19 December, Bordeaux - OMA has won the international competition to design the Pont Jean-Jacques Bosc, the sixth bridge across the river Garonne in Bordeaux and the first bridge design to be realized by OMA. Completion is scheduled for 2018.

OMA announced as finalist in Axel Springer competition

OMA has been announced as a finalist in the competition to design Axel Springer's new Media Campus in Berlin.

As one of three practices, OMA is entering the final stage of the competition. The winner is due to be announced in the new year following a series of public consultations. All proposals are currently exhibited at the Deutsche Architektur Zentrum (DAZ).

OMA's Comprehensive Strategy for Hoboken Selected for HUD Rebuild by Design Task Force

On October 28, OMA Partner Shohei Shigematsu presented four design opportunities across the Hurricane Sandy-affected region as part of the Rebuild by Design Initiative. After three months of research and conversation with communities in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and beyond, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has selected OMA's comprehensive strategy for Hoboken to be pursued in competition's next and final stage.

Resist, Delay, Store, Discharge: A Comprehensive Strategy for Hoboken

Hoboken is susceptible to both flash flood and storm surge. Our project capitalizes on a combination of political, ecological, and economic factors to create a comprehensive flood strategy - resist, delay, store, discharge - that both defends the entire city, and enables commercial, civic, and recreational amenities to take shape. Our comprehensive strategy deploys both hard infrastructure and soft landscape for coastal defense (resist); recommends policies to enable the urban fabric to slow down water (delay); a green circuit to trap water (store) and water pumps to support drainage (discharge).

OMA completes the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Headquarters in China

The new headquarters for the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) has been completed in Shenzhen's Central Business District. The 180,000 m2 building is OMA's next completed building in China after the CCTV Headquarters in Beijing.

OMA appointed to masterplan the Bogotá Centro Administrativo Nacional (CAN), a new civic center in Colombia

Bogotá / New York, 27 August 2013 - OMA's New York office has been selected in an international design competition to masterplan 680 acres of mixed use development in Bogotá consisting of government offices, residences, educational facilities, cultural venues and retail. The design was led by partner-in-charge Shohei Shigematsu.

OMA Shortlisted for the Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force Design Competition

The Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force announced the selection of OMA as one of ten design teams to proceed to Stage Two of REBUILD BY DESIGN, a multi-stage regional design competition that will develop innovative projects to protect and enhance Sandy-affected communities. The competition was launched last month by U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan in partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation. OMA's New York office, led by partner-in-charge, Shohei Shigematsu, will collaborate with Royal Haskoning DHV, Balmori Associates, R/GA, and HR&A Advisors for the six month research and design competition.

OMA appointed by Cathedral Group and Development Securities to masterplan Morden Wharf development on Greenwich Peninsula

OMA has been appointed by specialist mixed-use developer Cathedral Group PLC and joint venture partner Development Securities PLC as masterplanner and lead architect on the mixed-use development of Morden Wharf, a 19 acre regeneration site on London's Greenwich Peninsula. OMA will now start work on plans for the site, which was acquired as a corporate transaction by the joint venture in March 2012 and has the potential to produce a £950 million, 2 million sq ft mixed-used scheme.
